Sunshine Tomlin, LM, CPM
I am a graduate of the National Midwifery Institute, a three-year program, which aided me through the path of licensure in the state of California through both didactic work and apprenticeship. I have attended roughly 200 births both in the capacity of doula, student, and midwife in the years I have been attending births, about 40 of those have been as a midwife, since becoming licensed. I passed my NARM exam in 2005, and have received my midwifery license for the state of California.
I began my journey towards midwifery in 2000, almost two years after the birth of my second child. It was then that I learned of homebirth, and was immediately drawn to it. I became a doula in order to gain some experience with birth, but always with the vision of becoming a midwife. Since then, I have assisted several midwives in the area. I feel this has helped me to round out my education and see more of the possibilities of many situations. I occasionally assist other midwives and continue my work as a doula for higher risk pregnancies.
I am currently a member of and the regional representative for the California Association of Midwives and a member of Bay Area Birth Information (BABI) and the Birth Network of Santa Cruz County. I also hold memberships with the Midwives Alliance of North America (NARM) and Citizens for Midwifery (CfM). home.birth@comcast.net http://www.sunshinemidwifery.com
